Walk Details
The Purbeck Odyssey 2018 took place on Saturday 30th June, through the picturesque countryside and along the beautiful Dorset coastline, taking in Corfe Castle, St Aldhelm’s Head and Swanage.
The following walks are available:

What time will each Purbeck Odyssey walk start?
For each walk, you will need to check in at the registration area at Harmans Cross Village Hall at different times. Below are the check-in times for each walk.

For those walkers who will be using the Swanage railway (Castle Walk, Whale and Dolphin walks only), you will be given a train timetable on the day.
How much does participating in Purbeck Odyssey cost?
The registration fee for Purbeck Odyssey varied depending on the walk chosen. Prices for the Castle Walk, Whale and Dolphin walks include the Swanage Railway fare.

What does the fee cover?
- Free parking at Harmans Cross Village Hall
- First Aid and drinking water at all Marshall points.
- Full walk description and directions, pin on walker ID and sponsorship form for each walker.
- A ride on the Swanage Steam Railway for Castle Walk, Whale and Dolphin Walks.
- Medals for all finishers.
How difficult are the walks?
The five walks vary in difficulty from a short 2.5 mile walk to a 26 mile trek. Each walk will be marshalled along different checkpoints where volunteers will be on hand to help and deal with any questions or difficulties you may have. Volunteer marshals will close the walk route after the last walker has passed through their checkpoint. Only the designated course of each walk will be marshaled and walkers must follow the designated route of the walk. These walk routes will differ from 2017 where necessary depending upon the conditions and also upon walkers’ comments in 2017.
Castle Walk will be a 2.5 mile (approx) walk to Corfe Castle . Walkers may then return to Harmans Cross upon the Swanage Steam Railway . This will be suitable for adults and children wishing to walk a shorter distance.
Whale Walk is an intermediate walk and is suitable for the adults and children. This walk includes a trip between Swanage and Harmans Cross on the Swanage Steam Railway.
Dolphin Walk is an intermediate walk and is suitable for adults and children of a reasonable fitness. This walk includes a trip between Harmans Cross and Swanage on the Swanage Steam Railway.
Purbeck Voyage is an advanced walk and is suitable for adults and children over 15 years old only (and of a reasonable fitness).
Marathon Challenge is an advanced walk and is suitable for adults who are experienced and have a good level of fitness. This is longest and most challenging walk offered. Those who participate must be familiar with walking such a distance and on uneven terrain, and should consider themselves capable of completing the walk within a maximum time limit of 10 hours.
