Purbeck Odyssey 2015
Once again we were lucky with the weather for the annual Leukaemia Busters Purbeck Odyssey 2015 sponsored walks. This year brought over 80 walkers to the Norden Park and Ride outside Corfe Castle to take part in their choice of walk from the 26 mile Marathon Challenge to the 7 mile Whale Walk. Please go to Gallery to view photographs taken on the day, you may likely be in one!
The Marathon runners and walkers set off at 8.00a.m. and by midday there were walkers wearing Purbeck Odyssey T-shirts scattered throughout the Purbeck countryside and coastline. Some took the Swanage Steam Railway to Swanage from Norden and then walked back; others walked to Swanage, had lunch by the sea and then took the steam train back to Norden. Others simply walked to Swanage, then onto St Aldhelms Head and then back around to Swanage; while the Marathon Challengers did a 6 mile loop east of Corfe before setting off down to Swanage and around the coastline.
First back to the Registration Tent was, once again, Graham Baker with a time of 5 hrs 20 minutes for the Marathon. He was followed in by Keith Beauchamp with a time of 6 hrs 30 minutes. All the other walkers then followed with only one early retirement due to injury. However, it was the year for ‘Knees’ to be a common complaint! There should also be a mention of our regular canine participant, Kyle Britton, who took part again this year – dogs are always welcome!
Leukaemia Busters would like to thank all the walkers for their efforts in raising money for the charity by taking part and through sponsorship, which will be used to continue to fund our life-saving research. A raffle held during the course of the day also raised £252 and there were addition funds raised by sales of merchandise, refreshments and from collecting tins. Thank you everyone.
