Brockenhurst College Foundation Studies Students

On 23rd June 8 members of the Foundation Studies course at Brockenhurst College, together with their tutor, Elaine Axton, visited the Simon Flavell Laboratory and presented Dr David Flavell with a cheque for £1000.00. The members of the course had decided in January to raise funds for Leukaemia Busters after Elaine’s husband David, lost his fight with leukaemia in 2015.  They held various events including a Manwax during which Dave Chilcott and Ryan Harding had their entire legs waxed.   They also sold Leukaemia Busters wristbands and badges.

During their visit to the laboratory the team were shown the freezer where the lving leukaemia cells used to test new antibody based treatments are kept and also had the opportunity to see the living cells through a microscope and hear how Leukaemia Busters’ research is helping to find cures for currently incurable forms of leukaemia.

The team had also made their own red and white wristbands which they had been selling and they presented Dr Flavell and the Leukaemia Busters’ scientists with one each (see photos in the Gallery here).

Pictured below are the members of the course with Dr Flavell.
