Leukaemia Busters co-Scientific Director, Dr Sopsamorn (Bee) Flavell will be running the virtual London Marathon on Sunday 3rd October for two charities, Bowel Cancer UK and Leukaemia Busters. Bee who turns 70 in November said:

“ I wanted to do something to celebrate my upcoming 70th birthday and my survival from colon cancer now over four years ago. I’ve always wanted to run a marathon as a personal challenge so here’s my chance! I’ve elected to support two charities through sponsorship, our own Leukaemia Busters and Bowel Cancer UK ”. Bee is registered as an official participant for the 2021 virtual Virgin Money London Marathon in which there will be over 100,000 runners in 107 countries, a world record.  You’ll be able to follow her progress in real time on the day by downloading the 2021 London Marathon app from the App Store or Google Play and from within the app enter her runner number V28181.

Bee’s running route will start at Southampton General Hospital, through Southampton Common and then on to Ocean Village via the Guildhall and medieval Bargate where she will then undertake circuits of the marina basin up to a total distance of 26.2 miles (42.196 km). Marina Developments Ltd (MDL), operator of Ocean Village Marina have put their full support behind Bee’s effort and will also be following her progress as a live video stream on their FaceBook  so you can actually watch her running on the day.

“Supporting research is the key to solving the cancer problem. This is an enormous challenge but it’s one I intend to meet head on and succeed with. These two charities are of great personal significance to me and I’m hoping my running efforts will help raise funds to conduct more vital research that will save more lives in the future”
