Already in 2013 there have been some great events, organized by supporters old and new.

London to Brighton cycle

On Sunday 8th September Duncan Loveridge cycled from London to Brighton. He found it much harder on the day than in training but completed the course in 5 hours and 23 minutes – well done Duncan. Duncan has exceeded his fundraising target of £500 and still has sponsorship money to collect – watch this space for the final total.

3 Peaks of Yorkshire Challenge

Craig Jones has completed the 3 Peaks of Yorkshire Challenge and raised £133.00 – well done Craig

Bikers Collection

Our thanks go to James Kayam and the team at Chichester Honda for holding a Charity Bikewash on the 18th August and also for taking our collecting buckets to Matterley Basin for the British Motocross Grand Prix Festival over the Bank Holiday Weekend where they were one of the main sponsors. The total raised was £252.78 – thank you to all at Chichester Honda and their customers and visitors to the British Motocross Grand Prix.

Generous Hedge End shoppers

A successful Collection Day was held at Hedge End Superstore on Friday 16th August with shoppers donating £338.48. Lots of people stopped to chat and we would like to thank our volunteers who came and helped, Lorraine from Aviva, David Barnett, Carmen Chimes and Ella Scott, one of our research scientists. Thanks also go to to the Management Team at Hedge End.

3K4K (3 Klimbs 4 Kids)

On 28th July the 3K4K team returned to Bishops Waltham after 10 gruelling days cycling the length and breadth of the country as well as climbing the 3 peaks of Snowdon, Scaffell Pike and Ben Nevis. David and Bee Flavell met them upon their return and presented each of them with a Leukaemia Busters Medal. This was an amazing achievement by this dedicated team and their supporters. Thank you so much. Funds raised stand at £3550 for Leukaemia Busters and £3450 for Piam Brown Ward Rather puts that daily cycle to the shops into perspective, doesn’t it? Motorcross Event

Also on the 28th July Hampshire Motocross Club held their annual fundraising meeting at Matterley Basin outside Winchester. On a bright sunny day the view over the course was spectacular and the racing was fast and furious. A Charity Auction was held at lunchtime with everything from sunglasses to helmets being auctioned to the spectators and racers and a total of £6695 so far with more to come, was raised by the club in total. Thank you to all the team at Hampshire Motocross Club for their continuing support – they have now raised in excess of £300,000 for Leukaemia Busters! (Photo of motocross bike)

Tanya Ralph – Tandem Skydive

After several delays, Tanya Ralph finally completed her Tandem Skydive at Old Sarum on 21st July. She has raised an amazing £1116.50 so far in sponsorship. Here is a brilliant photo of Tiger Tanya and her Tandem partner du.

Purbeck Odyssey 2013

On 29th June the sun dawned over Corfe Castle as the first walkers set off on the 30 mile One Step Beyond walk which makes up part of this Leukaemia Busters Event. During the course of the morning over 100 walkers set out to walk distances between 19 miles and 4 miles as well as those who started before most people were even out of bed. All the walkers finished; Graham Baker completed the One Step Beyond in 7hrs and 40 minutes! Over all this event raised in excess of £6000 and a great day was had by all. Danny Neale Golf Day

On 22nd June there was another Golf Day, This time it took place at Canford School and was in memory of Danny Neale. Organised by Graham Neale this is another annual event which raises funds for Leukaemia Busters and this year they presented us with a cheque for £1240.11 – many thanks to all those who took part.
On the same day as the Golf Day, Amy Thompson and friends were taking to the water in Pelham’s Plunge sponsored swim. They raised over £1100 – thank you everyone. (Photos to come)

Norman Barnes Golf Day

The 20th Golf Day at the Purbeck Golf Club, organised by Peter Jolliffe and Len Robinson,was held on the 4th June. On a lovely sunny day they raised £8000. Well done and many thanks for your continuing support.

Sky Diving

James Hitchins, Laura McRae and Jacob Watson jumped out of a plane for Leukaemia Busters. Well done all of you and congratulations on raising £79.50.

Mitie London Revolution

This 185mile cycle ride was completed by James Baker on 18th and 19th May. Congratulations James who raised £180 for his efforts.

Virgin Money – Easter Eggs

The team at Virgin Money in Southampton’s College Road collected 44 Easter Eggs which were donated to the Piam Brown Ward plus raising funds for Leukaemia Busters. Bradley Austin – supports for his friend Isaac

Tendress Angus completed Charity Challenge’s Everest Base Camp Trek and raised over £400.

Golf day and Music Evening

On March 8th the Richard Williams Golf Day and Music Evening took place. The former, in pouring rain and a cold wind, was the most successful yet with a total of over £3100 raised from entry fees and an auction and donations. Well done Andy Piller for organizing this event again this year.
Following the Golf Day the Orange Rooms in Southampton once again hosted an evening of music organized by Charlie Fox. He also exceeded his previous fundraising total and raised over £800 from raffle tickets and donations. These events are in memory of DJ Richard Williams a close friend of Andy and Charlie’s and Leukaemia Busters are very grateful for their support.

Netley Abbey Junior School – Bring and buy sell

In February Netley Abbey Junior School’s Year 3 donated the proceeds of their Bring and Buy Stall held during their Annual Maths Week to Leukaemia Busters. They raised a total of £394.52 which they presented to Dr David Flavell, our Scientific Director at a special assembly.
